Andy Ross and Alvin Black led the scoring for the Pirates with three each. But 13 different players either scored or had assists in the game. Scoring two goals were Philip Tieszen, Tim Woolley, Jonathan Beck, Kyle Rooney and Colin Cash. Scoring a single goal were defenseman David Atwater, Doug Cook, Lowell Dyer and Sam Cordones. Joey Pietrantoni, Bob Kercher and Cook each had two assists and Dyer, Ross and Brian Moran added one assist each.

At the defensive end, Murray Forbes and Matt Weaver each had 7 ground balls to lead in that category. Forbes also led in LBCs with 6, followed up by Weaver with 4 LBCs. Goalkeeper Max Cheatham had eight saves on the night. Northern goalie Nathan Farabee, who had 20 saves against Riverside on April 12, had 17 more this time.

Scoring in the first period was Ross from Pietrantoni at 11:01, David Atwater unassisted at 10:08, Doug Cook from Ross at 8:27, Alvin Black from Cook at 7:17, Philip Tieszen unassisted at 4:55, Black from Pietrantoni at 3:16 and Tim Woolley unassisted at 1:08, to make it 7-0 at the end of the first.

In the second period, Woolley opened with an unassisted goal at 10:41, Jonathan Beck scored on a Lowell Dyer assist at 10:13, Beck scored on an unassisted bounce shot at 9:02 and Ross scored unassisted at 7:55 to end the second period scoring with Riverside up 11-0.

In the third period, Ross scored on a Kercher assist at 11:25, Dyer scored unassisted coming from behind the cage at 10:22, Philip Tieszen scored on a Cook assist at 8:56, Kyle Rooney scored unassisted at 8:20, Rooney scored on a left-handed shot at 4:08, Black scored unassisted at 2:14 and Colin Cash scored on a Kercher assist with 18.5 seconds left in the third period to make the score 18-0.

In the final period, Cash scored on a Brian Moran assist at 4:55 and Sam Cordones scored a left-hander unassisted with 2:12 left to make it 20-0.

Riverside led in ground balls 57 to 14 and in shots 21 to 11. On faceoffs, Riverside won only 13 of 24 as Northern's Eric Duke had an excellent showing, winning 11 faceoffs for the Knights against four different Pirates.

The excellent defense the Riverside Pirates played against Southeast Guilford on Saturday night apparently was not a fluke. The Pirate defense was almost as smothering on Tuesday, April 19, against archrival Chapel Hill, who were held to only a single second-half goal in Riverside's 8-4 win.

Box Score
Stats
The Pirates started slow, as Chapel Hill pulled out to a 2-0 lead on two transition goals. But they put together two strong middle quarters, scoring four in the second period and three in the third, to take a 7-4 lead into the final period. They held Chapel Hill scoreless for the final 12 minutes and added a goal of their own for the 8-4 PAC-VI Conference win.

Chapel Hill opened the scoring with two fastbreak goals, both by Al Mask on William Scroggs assists. The first one was at 4:57 of the first period and the second a 3:12. Neither team could mount a threat 6-on-6 in the period as the quarter ended with Chapel Hill up 2-0.

As the second period opened, Riverside's Joey Pietrantoni won one of his 11 of 15 faceoffs, which resulted in a shot by Tim Woolley that went wide. Chapel Hill cleared but was called for a crease violation. At 11:01 the Pirates made them pay when Bob Kercher sent a rocket, low-to-high shot into the top left corner of the net to cut the Chapel Hill lead to one, 1-2.

Riverside goalie Max Cheatham had two of his 12 saves in the next five minutes, one on a shot by Chapel Hill's Casey Leeper and another on a shot by Shane Nouri. At 6:27 Chapel Hill had a shot on goal that was backed up by a Pirate and Riverside cleared the ball. At the other end, Tim Woolley would not be denied by his defender and scored unassisted to tie the game at 2-2 with 5:56 left in the half.

At the 4:51 mark Chapel Hill's Nouri went out of the game after a hard hit that was called a penalty. Riverside managed to kill the penalty, however. Cheatham had two more big saves, one at 4:18 and another at 4:08 on a Scroggs shot, which led to a long clearing pass by defenseman Murray Forbes and an unassisted goal by Tim Woolley to give Riverside a lead at 3-2.

The Pirate defense, absent starter Chris Woolley, who was injured at Southeast Guilford, played inspired defense for the next few minutes. On the field during that stretch were Forbes, David Atwater, Matt Weaver, Kyle Massey, Daniel Hodges-Copple and Stephen Crockett. Adding to the defensive effort was Cheatham, who, with 46.1 seconds left made one of his most spectacular saves on the night, this one one a point-blank shot by Chapel Hill's Chet Corey.

But Chapel Hill wasn't to be kept out of the goal forever. With only 18 seconds remaining in the half Corey scored unassisted to tie the game and seemingly take the wind out of Riverside's sails right before half. But not so fast. Pietrantoni won the faceoff, passed quickly to Tim Woolley to the left of the cage, who passed to Alvin Black filling the middle, who put it in the net to give Riverside back it's lead, 4-3 with 10.2 seconds left.

The third period began with another Pietrantoni faceoff win, which led to Doug Cook putting an unassisted goal past the Chapel Hill goalkeeper to give Riverside a 5-3 lead with 11:40 remaining in the period. At the 9:22 mark Chapel Hill's Nick Desper scored unassisted on a blistering shot to make it 5-4.

The teams traded possessions for the next four minutes until Tim Woolley scored unassisted on a strong move against his defender to make it 6-4 Riverside with 8:44 left in the period.

Chapel Hill had an extra-man opportunity at the 8:31 mark but couldn't capitalize. The Chapel Hill fans were glad to see Nouri back on the field at this point. The Riverside defensive unit during the next dry spell for the Tigers was Forbes, Weaver, Sam Cordones, Massey, Atwater and Hodges-Copple. They pretty much bottled up the Tiger offense until the 5:30 mark, when Nouri fired a close-in shot that Riverside's Cheatham collected in his stick for another spectacular save.

The defensive crew, with Kieron James added this time, kept the Tigers out of the goal for the next three minutes. At the 2:32 mark Pietrantoni scored on an assist from Jonathan Beck with a high-right shot to make it 7-4. The defense, with Forbes on Nouri and Weaver on Graham Georges, played tough for the rest of the quarter. The only threat during that period was a hard shot by Scroggs that Cheatham saved with 38 seconds left in the period.

The final period opened with Riverside getting a minor stick penalty, one minute non-releasable. They managed to kill that penalty, with Cheatham making two big saves during the man-down. At the 9:42 mark Black scored on an assist from Tim Woolley to make it 8-4, the final score.

Chapel Hill goalie David Hartzell had several key saves during the next eight minutes. For much of the final seven minutes Riverside played keep-away, with Woolley, Kercher and Pietrantoni alternately handling the ball behind the net. For a team that has had trouble handling the ball all year, they seemed to have no trouble with the tactic on this night, running out the clock for the win.

Bob Kercher led in ground balls for Riverside with 7, Murray Forbes led with 4 LBCs. Pietrantoni won 11 out of 15 faceoffs. Both teams played without a key player, Riverside without defensive starter Chris Woolley and Chapel Hill without midfielder R.J. Crumpler, who was fighting off a flu bug.

Coming less than 24 hours after a marathon three-overtime game against Jordan, there were questions about whether fatigue would play a role in the Pirates' game against Southeast Guilford. It did. By the time the game was over the Falcons were tired of the Pirate defense.

Box Score
Stats
While Riverside goalkeeper Max Cheatham and the defensive performance of the Pirates' longpoles and middies kept the Falcons bottled up, attackmen Doug Cook and Tim Woolley were putting points on the board. Cook and Woolley ended the game with three goals each.

Cook opened the scoring with an unassisted left-hander at 11:28 after Joey Pietrantoni took the opening faceoff. At 8:28 Woolley made it 2-0 on an assist from Cook in what turned out to be the game-winning goal. At 3:33 of the first period Cook threatened from the Falcon goalie's right side, and after being doubled, passed to an open Lowell Dyer on the left side who put the ball in the net to make it 3-0 at the end of the first period.

Southeast won the opening faceoff in the second period and scored at 11:25 when the Falcons' Mark Van Hoever scored on a leaper in the middle unassisted to make it 3-1. Neither team could mount any attacks for most of the second period, but at 5:33 Bob Kercher found an open Tim Woolley to make it 4-1.

Despite being up 4-1, the Pirates were not playing their best lacrosse. It seemed that everyone was having trouble keeping the ball in their stick and errant passes were the rule rather than the exception. With 57 seconds remaining in the half Coach Kirkley threw his hat, a sure sign of coachly dissatisfaction. One RHS parent in the stands summed it up: "There goes the hat."

One highlight of the game for the RHS fans was the play of Matthew Tieszen in defending Falcon clears. He harrassed the Southeast goalie and two longpoles, running from one side of the field to another and disrupting several clearing attempts, much to the delight of the Pirate fans. His role as the designated clearing assassin seems set.

Riverside scored its fifth goal at 8:10 as Cook scored unassisted, and at 3:02 Woolley scored again, this time on an Andy Ross assist, to make it 6-1. Meanwhile, at the Falcon end of the field, goalkeeper Matt Roach was making some key saves. He saved a Woolley shot at 7:26 and a Cook shot at 3:27. He ended the night with six saves. Riverside's Cheatham ended the night with 10 saves.

The Falcons got the faceoff at the opening of the fourth period but, with Matthew Tieszen dogging on the clear, threw the ball away out of bounds at 11:41. Riverside cleared and at the 11:26 mark scored its final goal of the night when Cook scored unassisted to make it 7-1.

The Falcons threatened several times in the final period but were rebuffed by the Pirate defense. A platoon of players, including Murray Forbes, Chris Woolley, Kyle Massey, Matt Weaver, David Atwater, Stephen Crockett and Kyle Rooney helped blank the Falcons for more than three quarters. When the Falcons got past the defense, Cheatham was there to make key saves, including one at the 7:59 mark and another at the 4:38 mark of the final period.

Riverside was in a man-up situation beginning at the 3:07 mark of the final period and kept the ball until passing it out of bounds with five seconds remaining. The horn sounded before the Falcons could clear.

Black ended the night with three goals for Riverside, none bigger than the last. Reynolds and Riverside goalkeeper Max Cheatham were a big factor in the late going, each coming up with big saves to keep their teams in the game. Cheatham ended the game with 15 saves. Reynolds was listed with eight but probably had more than that.

Most of the fans were beginning to pick up their stadium seats and gather their belongings after Riverside's Bob Kercher scored on a Joey Pietrantoni assist with 1:36 left in regulation to put Riverside up 7-6. But some sloppy passing by Riverside gave Jordan the ball with 22 seconds remaining and Ben Feldman scored on a Grier Allison assist to tie the game at 7-7 with 15.1 seconds remaining.

The end of regulation and the three overtimes were indicative of the parity of play all during the game. Jordan scored first when James McFarlane scored unassisted at 10:56 of the first period. That goal was the result of a faceoff won by Jordan's Matt Little, who managed 9 of 19 faceoffs against the Pirates' Joey Pietrantoni and Jonathan Beck.

Riverside had trouble clearing the ball early in the game, giving it up to the Falcons at inopportune times. One such mistake led to a Ben Feldman goal on an assist from Joe Howard at 6:10 to make it 2-0 Jordan. Finally, at 2:55 of the first period, Riverside got on the board when Tim Woolley assisted Black on a fastbreak opportunity by the Pirates.

At 2:45 a buzz went up among Riverside fans when they saw Bob Kercher, who hadn't played since the Grimsley game after getting a concussion, enter the game. It didn't take him long to make an impact. Twelve seconds later, at 2:33, he scored unassisted to tie the game at 2-2.

At the 45 second mark, Howard scored on a Scot MacIver assist to make it 3-2 Jordan after a dropped ball by Riverside gave them the ball at their end. But with only 16.4 left in the period Tim Woolley scored unassisted against two defenders to make it 3-3 at the first break.

Riverside scored at 11:37 of the second period in a man-up situation when Woolley assisted Pietrantoni to put Riverside up 4-3. It didn't take long for Jordan to tie the game, though, as Howard scored unassisted at 9:45 to make it 4-4.

At 6:30, Black and Woolley again teamed up with Black scoring on the Woolley assist to put Riverside up 5-4, which ended the scoring in the first half.

The third period was scoreless, thanks to Cheatham's saves during that period. He made a save on a MacIver shot at 6:17, on a Howard shot at 5:54 and another Howard shot at 1:22. Jordan's Reynolds made two saves in the period, on a Kercher shot at 10:06 and another on a Brian Moran shot at 4:47.

Riverside went up two goals when Pietrantoni took a long pass from Lowell Dyer to score at 11:06 to make it 6-4. But Howard scored unassisted for Jordan less than a minute later to cut it to 6-5. At 5:45 MacIver scored unassisted to tie the game.

Big saves by both goalies dominated the next few minutes. Cheatham saved a Howard shot at 3:57 and another Howard shot at 3:02. At 2:57 Reynolds saved a one-on-one shot by Doug Cook, who got the rebound and shot again. But Reynolds stuffed that one too. At 1:53 Cook hit the post on another breakaway, but Riverside got the ball back and at 1:36 Kercher's goal on a Pietrantoni assist put Riverside up 7-6.

Pietrantoni won the faceoff but a lazy pass by Riverside was snagged by Jordan's Dan Nifong who cleared into the Riverside end. Kercher got a groundball at 37 seconds to give Riverside the ball, but another lazy pass was again snagged by Nifong across midfield with 22 seconds left and he cleared again.

With 15.1 seconds left Ben Feldman scored on an assist from Grier Allison to put the game into overtime.

The first overtime was again a goalie display. Cheatham saved shots by Jordans Mike McGeary at 3:39 and MacIver at 3:28. Jordan's Reynolds stole a pass over the goal at 2:55 but the Falcons failed to clear. At 2:02 Kercher had what looked like the winning goal -- again -- but Reynolds saved it.

Riverside had a man-up situation but couldn't score as the teams went even at 1:28. At 1:22 Tim Woolley scored but was ruled in the crease and the goal was waved off. At 42 seconds Cheatham saved a MacIver shot and, when Jordan was ruled to have stepped in the crease, the ball went over to the Pirates. They couldn't manage a score, however, and the buzzer sounded in the first overtime.

In the second overtime it was much the same. Cheatham saved a Howard shot at 3:01 and Reynolds saved a Kercher shot at 2:29. Jordan was in a man-up when Riverside was called for a push at 1:27. That's when Cheatham's finest moment came. At 56 seconds he made a huge save on a Howard shot on a one-on-one chance. Riverside got the ball but it went out of bounds. Then, at 26.5 seconds, Cheatham made another huge save on a Howard shot to keep the score tied 7-7 at the end of two overtimes.

In the final overtime Pietrantoni won the faceoff for the Pirates but they turned the ball over at the 3:40 mark. At 3:29 a Jordan player stepped on the endline while in possession of the ball and it went back to Riverside. Pirate Coach Jim Kirkley called a timeout at 3:06 to discuss things. At 2:44, Black got free for the pass from Cook that ended the game 8-7.

For Riverside, Black had three goals, Kercher had two, Pieterantoni had two goals and an assist, Tim Woolley had one goal and three assists, and Dyer and Cook each had an assist.

For Jordan, Howard had three goals and an assist, Feldman had tw goals, MacIver had a goal and an assist, McFarlane had a goal and Allison had an assist.

The Riverside Pirates visited Northern on Tuesday, April 12, and scored a season-high 22 goals, 10 of those in the second period, to come away with a 22-2 conference win.

Box Score

Alvin Black and Jonathan Beck each scored four goals to lead the Pirates in that category. Black and Tim Woolley each had five points, Black getting an assist along with his four goals and Woolley getting three goals and two assists. Beck led in the ground ball category with 15, most coming off of faceoffs directed his way by faceoff ace Joey Pietrantoni.

On the Northern side, goalie Nathan Farabee had 20 saves in the game, eight in the first quarter alone. During one stretch in that quarter, from the 5:17 mark to the 2:07 mark, Farabee registered seven saves on shots by Andy Ross (2), Doug Cook (2), and Lowell Dyer, Tim Woolley and Jonathan Beck.

Riverside got four goals in the first period: Dyer from Andy Ross at 8:35, Tim Woolley unassisted at 7:26, Doug Cook from Ross at 2:343 and Tim Woolley from Joey Pietrantoni with 33 seconds left to make it 4-0. Northern's Zach Smith scored the Knights' lone goal in the period with 52 seconds left on a lefthander unassisted to make it 4-1 at the end of the period.

In the second period Riverside scored 10 unanswered goals: Alvin Black from Tim Woolley at 12:53, Philip Tieszen unassisted at 10:14, Joey Pietrantoni unassisted at 10:02, Kyle Rooney from Tim Woolley at 9:41, Beck from Rooney at 9:16, Black from Rooney at 6:33, Black from Dyer at 5:32, Woolley from Andy Ross at 2:53, Brian Moran from black at 39 seconds and Beck from Pietrantoni at 11 seconds.

Pietrantoni and Beck won all but three faceoffs in the first half.

In the third period Riverside scored five unanswered: Doug Cook on a turnaround unassisted goal at 11:20, Beck from Philip Tieszen at 7:25, Black from Tim Woolley at 4:30, Colin Cash unassisted at 3:28 and Matthew Tieszen unassisted at 15 seconds to make it 19-1 after three quarters.

In the final period, Matthew Tieszen scored unassisted and Beck scored unassisted to make it 21-1. Then Northern's Luke Allen scored unassisted at 4:28 to make it 21-2. Cash scored on a Doug Cook assist to make the final score 22-2.

Riverside's Joey Pietrantoni plays defense on East Chapel Hill's Bill Hayes (25)
The Riverside Pirates traveled to East Chapel Hill's place on Friday, April 8, to try to avenge a 10-1 loss to the Wildcats on March 22. But it wasn't to be, as the strong East Chapel Hill defense dampened the Pirate offense as much as the heavy rains dampened the playing field right before game time.

[Note: Stats have not been updated for this game. Some questions about ground ball and LBC totals. Will add later after tape is reviewed.]

The Pirates shot themselves in the foot during the first period, playing defense for more than 10 of the 12 minutes of the quarter. If the East defense didn't strip the ball from a Pirate's hands, the Pirates themselves threw it out of bounds.

On the good side of the ledger, however, the Pirate defense played very well for long stretches during the game. In the first period, though they played defense for more than 10 minutes, they allowed only two goals, Tim Kihlstrom's unassisted goal at 8:56 that made it 1-0 and Bob Tauchen's goal on a Tony Mendes assist at 1:34 to make it 2-0.

Joey Pietrantoni won all the faceoffs in the first period, finishing the game with 16 of 19 faceoffs.

In the second period, East score four unanswered goals. Dwight Weld scored on a Mendes assist at 9:55, Weld scored on a garbage goal in a man-up at 6:18, Mendes scored on a low rocket shot on a Tim Kihlstrom assist at 5:46 and Weld scored on a Kihlstrom assist at 4:34.

Riverside uncharacteristically lost three faceoffs in a row late in the second period, two by Pietrantoni and one by Jonathan Beck, but penalties on East lessened the impact. East was called for three penalties, one at 2:39, one at 2:46 and one at 1:25. Riverside was up two men for five seconds at one point but couldn't capitalize on the advantage.

However, once back even, Riverside's Tim Woolley stuffed a low one-hander past the East goalie for Riverside's first goal at 31.5 seconds remaining. Then Woolley assisted on an Alvin Black goal at 4.4 seconds remaining to cut the East lead to 6-2 at the half.

What little momentum Riverside had was squelched quickly as East scored on a man-up (Mendes unassisted) at 10:59 of the third period, and Mendes scored again unassisted at 9:57 to make it 8-2. Less than a minute later Scot Meyer scored on a Kihlstrom assist to make it 9-2.

Despite the score differential, Riverside played some excellent defense during the period. On one possession East got the ball at 6:54 on a clear and kept it until the 4:03 mark without threatening. At that point excellent defense forced a bad pass out of bounds and Riverside took possession.

In the final period East reeled off four more unanswered: Uly Lim unassisted at 10:07, Tauchen unassisted at 8:12, Mendes unassisted at 7:34 and Tauchen unassisted at 5:30 to make it 13-2. With 21 seconds remaining Riverside's Andy Ross scored an unassisted (one is tempted to say meaningless) goal to end the scoring with Riverside on the short end 13-3.

The Riverside defense was superb in this game and the Pirate longpoles kept a close check on Grimsley's potent offense. The Whirlies could manage only three goals in each half as defensemen Murray Forbes, Chris Woolley, David Atwater and Matt Weaver kept them in check.

In goal, Max Cheatham found out just before the game that starting goalie Brad Smith would have to bow out with an injury. He filled the gap admirably with 14 saves in his first varsity start.

On the offensive end the Pirates kept finding cracks in the Grimsley defense, which was a zone for most of the late going. The Pirates managed to score five goals in each half. The Pirates had to play without mainstay middie Bob Kercher from the 5:55 point in the second quarter after he was sandwiched between two Grimsley players as he scored Riverside's fifth goal. Kercher was hit in the head and never came back in the game.

Riverside's Doug Cook started the scoring with a goal on an assist from Tim Woolley at 10:45 of the first period. Grimsley's Colin Sherwood tied it up on an unassisted goal at 9:18, which was answered by a Joey Pietrantoni goal unassisted at 3:17 to put Riverside up 2-1. Colin Sherwood scored again on a turnaround goal at 1:45 to tie the game at 2-2 as the first period ended.

Cook opened the second period scoring as well with an unassisted goal at 11:32 to put Riverside up 3-2. Then, at 9:04, Jonathan Beck took a perfect outlet pass from Matt Weaver and took it in to make the score 4-2 in Riverside's favor. At 7:23, with Riverside playing man-down, Grimsley's Garrett Sherwood scored on an assist fro Colin Sherwood to make it 4-3.

The Pirates had an EMO chance at 7:15 but threw the ball out of bounds and Grimsley killed the penalty. The Whirlies made them pay for that mistake when at 6:21 Colin Sherwood scored unassisted to make it 4-4.

At 5:55 Bob Kercher took the ball in strong and scored and was hit by two Grimsley players, one getting him up around the jaw. He stayed on the ground for a long while before groggily coming to the sidelines. He left before the game was over or a precautionary checkup but no word yet on his condition.

The Pirates again had a man-up chance at 4:00 but again threw the ball away and couldn't capitalize. Meanwhile, Grimsley's goalie, James Leath, was making three of his 23 saves in the final two minutes of the period to keep Riverside from adding to its five goals and its one-goal lead before the half.

At the start of the second half Joey Pietrantoni won one of his 13 of 17 faceoffs and took it immediately to the cage for an unassisted goal at 11:47 to go up 6-4. For the next several minutes Grimsley threatened but the Riverside defense came up big, getting several takeaways and LBCs. Then, at 9:10, Grimsley managed to break through as Garrett Sherwood scored to make it 6-5.

At the eight-minute mark defenseman Murray Forbes stole a Grimsley pass and cleared the ball, which led to a Tim Woolley goal on a Pietrantoni assist at 7:23 to put Riverside up 7-5. At 5:37 Philip Tieszen scored on a Woolley assist to give Riverside some breathing room at 8-5.

At the 3:15 mark Forbes was playing as good a defense as one could play on Colin Sherwood, but Sherwood managed to turn and get the ball to go past the Riverside goalie to cut the lead to 8-6, which was the score at the end of the third period.

The final period opened with Riverside being called for a one-minute stick-violation penalty. The defense was huge during the penalty, and so was Cheatham in goal, making a big save at 11:11 to help kill the penalty without a Grimsley score. Grimsley had another extra-man opportunity at 8:13 but Riverside managed to kill that one too.

At the 5:09 mark, after Chris Woolley took the ball away from a Grimsley attackman and cleared to his teammates, Cook scored his third goal, this one on an assist from Tim Woolley, put Riverside up 9-6. Cheatham had two saves over the next three minutes, one on Grimsley's Kyle Fredrick and another on a shot by Colin Sherwood to keep Grimsley off the board.

At the 2:56 mark Jonathan Beck made a strong move to the goal but hit a pipe. The ball bounced to Tim Woolley, almost as if it had been a pass, and Woolley put it in the goal to give Riverside a 10-6 lead that pretty much ended the suspense in this game. Finally, at 1:40, Garrett Sherwood managed Grimsley's final goal unassisted to make it a 10-7 final.

We welcome the return of the Riverside Pirates from their recent spring break trip to northern Georgia. The Pirates enjoyed a variety of activities during the week, including a visit to Stone Mountain, a highly competitive game of bingo, southern hospitality, an exclusive engagement at the Father's House Family Fun Center on a rainy Georgia afternoon, relaxing in the hot tub, seven delicious Southern style buffets, and the unexpected pleasure of Coach Kirkley's early morning serenades.
The senior parents would like to express their appreciation to those parents that joined the trip as chaperones, and also to those who contributed to the success of the trip through their generous donations. We would also like to extend a special thank you to Coach Kirkley for another unforgettable Riverside Lacrosse adventure.
Doug Cook opened the scoring for Riverside at 10:43 with an unassisted goal. But Marist's Gary Marshall tied the score at 4:46 with a goal on an assist from Bryan Schack. Marist took the lead at 4:24 when Jay Longo scored on an Andrew Costas assist, but Riverside tied the score at 2-2 when Pietrantoni scored on a Lowell Dyer assist to end the first period's scoring.

Marist took the lead again at 10:41 on Marshall's unassisted goal. But at 6:09 Pietrantoni scored unassisted to tie it at 3-3. Riverside scored three more unanswered in that period (Alvin Black from Tim Woolley at 5:58, Pietrantoni from Andy Ross at 5:07, and Ross from Bob Kercher at 2:28) to head to the locker room with a 6-3 lead at the half.

The third period was dominated by the Pirates, who scored three goals to the War Eagles' one. Kercher opened with an unassisted goal at 8:07, followed by another Black-from-Woolley goal at 5:36. Ten seconds later, Woolley scored on a Pietrantoni assist at 5:26 to make it 9-3. A lone Marist goal with 47 seconds remaining (Costas unassisted) made it 9-4 after three periods.

It was all Riverside from there on out. The Pirates scored five more in the final period to make it 14-4 at the horn. Pietrantoni scored on a Woolley assist at 11:27, Ross scored on a Dyer assist at 9:28, another Black-from-Woolley combo at 8:57 made it 12-4, and unassisted goals by Philip Tieszen at 6:03 and Kercher at 4:45 closed out the game for the Pirates.
